Uhm ...
... all of these things are
only necessary if you want to become a writer ... a fictional one ... right?
or maybe even a Journalist! But these are basics really if you want to get into literature or become a Professional at something "Read everything" and not to be bias But you should only read things like history and science if you'll need to use it, there's no point in learning something that you know for definite that you'll never use. My advice is read newspapers, not tabloid ones, but proper news news like the Sunday times packs. Newspapers contain a lot of common knowledge that you will definitely need to know for the future and also articles have been specially prepared so that you learn something new be it in science or historical subjects. Plus they have lots of words you don't know so you can expand your vocabulary too n_n kikitue xx

Anyway, I better make this post useful. Have a lit-tech. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chekhov%27s_gun

To Yamayoshi: Ofcourse knowledge is power but you also can't get too caught up in learning and not take care of your body, would you like to 'get'
a paycheck or die from ill health and get no paycheck at all?
To Light: Yup the future is unseeable so if you read newspapers you get a wide range of knowledge but if you only look in one section ie science then you will only learn things in that area plus there's no need to go into detail unless you're going to get into a proffession in that area otherwise you don't get to use all the nifty big words you learned. It's almost like learning a new language and speaking it in the wrong country. To Eskimo: Yeah but they also contain hard facts and I don't think that they are manipulative but yeah I know what you mean so you got to keep your wits about you and stuff when you're reading newspapers. kikitue xx

Hey Eskimo777, No, I don't think it is lazy, but if used "too much", then yes, probably. It could be considered cliche too. -Yama TKS ![]()

Hey, hey. It's time for another Literary Technique Power Up link.
This time, it's the controversial technique of deus ex machina. For those who don't speak Latin, it means "god from a machine". Basically, it's a twist ending device used as a "cure all", to help characters out of often difficult, climatic situations, without having to explain it much. Most people see it as lazy writing, so I would do my best to avoid using it if I were you. Saying that though, it could be used comically if used in conjunction with lampshade hanging, as I intend to do with my manga. Don't over use this either though, or readers won't forgive you for being a lazy writer all the time. |

The dream sequence ending has been overdone to the point of predictability and dissatisfying when unveiled.
