Both Paint Shop Pro and Adobe Photoshop each cost $99.99, so the prices are a bit steep for me to just buy both of them and call it quits.
Besides, they have fairly similar picture editing functions. What I want to know is which one is better for digitally coloring anime. Is it simply a matter
of opinion? Or is one a gyp while the other is amazingly useful? Is one better for beginners and the other aimed more towards professionals? (Am I asking
way too many questions? 
)
Anyways, thanks in advance for any and all feedback provided on this subject. I greatly appreciate it.

Well I've heard that Photoshop is supposed to be the best and was the original digital painting thing-a-ma-bob plus it's pretty advanced. It was
originally made for Macs and things and so it's alot more compatible with them than windows or vista pcs.
But I haven't used Paint Shop Pro so I dunno if it's any good but there are thousands of things like these like Zbrush and ... some others (I've forgotten them all!) kikitue xx

I've got Paint Shop Pro XI, but I seriously don't recommend it, it crashes quite a lot (on both XP & Vista) resulting in a loss of your unsaved
work. There is also several really annoying bugs in it, random layers will mysteriously move to the right, cutting off anything that goes off the screen, which
can't be undone, cause it was never done by the user ¬_¬
It also can't draw smooth lines if you're using a tablet (example, zoom in), this is a problem with Paint Shop Pro, as I've got two different tablets from different manufactures (not a driver problem). Having used the trial version of Photoshop, I would recommend it, I don't like the layout as much as Paint Shop Pro XI, but it is much better as a program (even on Vista!) Didn't notice any bugs or crashes. Also it doesn't suffer from the unsmooth lines from tablets like Paint Shop Pro does. |

All I know is we got Adobe Photo Shop CS3 and it is awesome----also expensive specially here in Australia
I have never used paint shop pro--but I have tried to undertand Illustrator and failed on many many occasions

FYI, Adobe Photoshop "Elements" is much different than the "expensive" photoshop most people use. As for features, all the versions of
photoshop (the expensive versions) are not much different (Not including ELEMENTS!). The higher versions of Photoshop has extra features that most people dont
need to use. I know this because Ive used photoshop 7.0, 8.0 CS, CS2, and CS3. IMO, If I were to buy Photoshop now, I would try to look for Photoshop 7, 6, or
even 5 (but I would aim for 7 since Im more familiar with it). The new CS series costs well above a nonprofessional's price range, so they are out of the
question.
As for why I dislike elements so much... its because when I tried it, it didnt have some of the features that normal photoshop had like Vecor tools and paths (not sure if this is true for all versions of Elements, I think I used 3.0). I immediatly unistalled it afterwards. Elements seemed to be more on the editing Photos side, in which they strip down most of the features of normal photoshop. I mean cmon, compare the Price: Elements: $99, CS3: $649. But this is just based on my experience with these programs. Im just warning you about the whole Elements thing. Also, there is a FREE software called The GIMP. It has most of the features that most people use in photoshop. I used it temporarily one time when I didnt have photoshop one time, and I liked it. I still have it on my computer today. I cant say much about Paint Shop Pro though, I have no experience in it. Sorry.

I always figured Paint Shop Pro was more color-friendly in terms of CG painting, given the title and all. I'd be bias in saying that Photoshop is easier to
use because I've never actually used Paint Shop Pro.
Just did a little digging on Amazon for the versions you specified. Includes what each product features, customer reviews, ratings, descriptions and their final cost (minus shipping :p) Corel Paint Shop Pro X2 Adobe Photoshop Elements 6.0

I think it all depends on your ability and knowledge to use the software.
Photoshop on my pc has random bugs, I mean what are scratch disks and why do they get full? and once my photoshop just froze and I couldn't do anything but restart my pc loosing an amazing amount of work (so remember to save regularly because these programs don't have backup save thingies) although I think it was because I was inputting too much information into photoshop ... kikitue xx

Kikitue-- You made a great point that should be taken into consideration. It DOES depend on
ability/knowledge. Also, thanks for the info on bugs and the tip about saving. Glad I didn't have to learn that the hard way.
Lamnura-- Thank you so much for taking the time to look both programs up on Amazon! It proved to be invaluable and really helped me a lot! 
Dragoon38900-- Thank you a lot for pointing that out! I didn't notice that Adobe Photoshop Elements was really different from the "normal" one, all I noticed was that it was way cheaper. I still think I'll go with Elements, though, because I'll never be able to scrape together several hundred dollars just for a computer program.  Also, I tried GIMP a while back
(I was messing around with custom content for Neverwinter Nights 2 player-made modules, and everyone on the NWN2 forums reccomended GIMP) but my computer had
numberless issues with it andl I was finally forced to uninstall it. 
Rainamurasaka-- Thanks! Photoshop CS3 is pretty expensive over here in the United States too (the lowest I've ever seen it sold for is 500 US dollars, eek eek), but maybe someday I'll be able to try it out. 
Bakadesuka-- Thanks for the warning! Paintshop sounds pretty bad. 
It looks like Paint Shop Pro has its own invaluable abilities, but with Photoshop I'll get more features and less bugs for my $99.99 (or $70-something, if I decide to buy it via Amazon.com). Thanks for the invaluable help, everyone!

Well i suggest adobe photoshop, it is kinda made for coloring and if you have a tablet, drawing on the computer
i suggest it.

Also, thanks for the suggestions once again! Photoshop it is. Now I just need to decide whether to save up my money for Photoshop CS3 (eek, $500) or to go with Photoshop Elements 6 for $99 (or $70-something from amazon.com).

That was also my question to, like KitsuneGirl66, I've heard a lot my friend has the Paint Shop Pro on her computer but the coloring is bad and the
animation does not look the way it should and she has the tablet. I'm thinking I should go with photoshop since I've heard a lot of good information
