Haha yea out of all the many different ways to drawings eyes, I've found myself liking Tony Takas style the most 
. Not to mention how he combines the anatomically correct proportions of the
human body with a anime/manga feel.
After seeing what Aldo, Michelle, and now with what you said I have finally come to realize that from her shoulder down to her hands are done in a very
uncomfortable position. This is probably due to my lack of experience on such poses because I missed such an obvious mistakes. Thank you for clarifying it for
me .

So I was cleaning out my hard drive and I happened to come across this old drawing of mine. It was my first drawing I posted on HTDM a few years back. Eager
to see how much I've improved since then I redrew the picture so let me know what you guys think It's pretty sloppy I know
I encourage everyone out there to save their old drawings so they can recreate it in the future and see how much you've improved since then  .
As always any C&C are quite welcomed. |

When was the old drawing done? Wow! You have improved a lot. Everything from the lines to the coloring are smoother now. Again, it reminds me of Taka. He is
one of my favorite artists too.
The only suggestion I have is to add a little color to her eyebrows to make them bolder. It's thin and difficult to see them now. Nice work man! You should do more of these someday!

Well, the face shape and color choices were dead giveaways.
As usual (and mangaka will attest to this) I recommend being careful about focusing your efforts on trying to mimic one person's art style. It's likely to cause some problems for you later in your drawing life (if there is such a thing). Most significantly, it can make it difficult for you to learn new techniques that go against what you've learned from that one style. Of course, that's subject to two things: (1) if you were actually only studying Taka's style ('cause I'm not ruling out the possibility that you're also exploring) and... (2) if you're fine with only drawing in Taka's style. Redraws are always fun. It's a feel-good thing. Me and Lan do it all the time. ... well... a lot of times. Just an FYI though. Taka doesn't kill off all the saturation from his colors. He just avoids using them as the base-colors. If you look closely, you'll see some yellows on the way he paints skin, and some strong greens and blues and oranges on backgrounds or where he thinks (i think) they're appropriate. Also, he does put white on the eyes. I dunno if you're avoiding that on purpose for aesthetic purposes. Keep it up though. This is cool stuff.

quick search through the forums and that drawing was done on 04/30/07 which was quite awhile back. I'm
also quite sure anyone who have seen Tony Taka's art would have him placed quite high on the "Favorite Artist" list

Oh haha yea you are quite right about the eyebrows. They really are quite thin and hard to see. It's just one of those bad habits of mine to define hairs with quick and small strokes. Thank you for pointing it out! Pharan - I agree with what you said! It's just that I used Tony Taka's style as way to get my " feet wet " when it comes to drawing anime/manga. Ever since then his style just sort of rubbed off on me without me noticing it haha  .
I never really thought about my color choices being similar to Tony's. He uses much more vibrant colors then I normally do. Although I could probably change that with a quick switch in hue/saturation. It's just that
for some reason those "muted" color gives it a soft look, or at least to me it appears that way.
Also from what I've seen every artists add whites to the eyes. I just don't overly define it too much.
But thank you for your comments, I'll take note of what you've said and focus on developing my "own" style.
And jeez I'm already at my posting limit for the day... I guess I won't be able to say anything else until tomorrow.

Yes, the linework and colouring are definitely much better, as are the folds of the paper and her clothes.
Technically, the second picture has become much better, but to me, the girl in the first(old) picture captivates me more, because she has more expression. She looks happy, innocent, all ready to show her "Hello" and meet new people. The second(newly drawn) girl; she looks mysterious, distant; her expression seems more mature, and although she has a gentle smile one is not quite sure if she's really happy. I think it might be a combination of her eyebrow shape and placement, more "closed" looking eyes and closed-mouth smile. If the different expressions are intentional, then it's fine; if not I think the girl in the second drawing, although technically beautiful, needs more "life" before she can match the first. Just my 2 cents. |

Strafe - Shining Tears also happened to be the game that introduced me to his artwork as well! I guess more practice is the way to go.
I apologize for the black and white. I like to play around with it alot
during my sketches.

I like black&white pictures, cuz most of the time it looks beter then the colored version.
