Hey Pharan!! Long time no see!! Nice can't wait for th efinished product, but could you make the capa a bit more dynamic it looks too flat with the wind
.....well that's just my 2 cents (does it 2 cents count anymore in our country?^_^). Great to see you again my friend!!

Hey Pharan!
You read the note I sent you in deviantART? Anyway, this is another great drawing. The pose is very dynamic. Great lineart too! Hmm...I wonder why she is throwing a sword. Melon's weapon is a bow and she is very unskilled with swords. Thanks again for doing this but can you please put copyright/credit? Keep on updating!

Yeah. Sorry. My cat posted the picture by mistake. I'll definitely put proper credit on the final (and on this).
This isn't done yet, by the way. I figured she needed to grab the sword for one of her knight companions or something... hehehe. (always meant to ask you about her weapon though) I did mean for Melon to look androgynous but I was chatting with Lan the other night/day(depending on whose timezone you'd prefer) and we kinda reached a conclusion that she looked too manly here. I'm making the necessary adjustments... beginning with her mouth. I'm not too sure about how to make the cape more dynamic though.. I'll try to experiment some more on other drawings but, just FYI, I'm not the type who loves too many exaggerations when it comes to visuals until they're rooted in some realism.. Some people just get carried away you know? like capes and clothes with too many folds and women with legs that are too long and skinny and breasts twice or thrice the average size.. and lines and shadows where there doesn't need to be lines and shadows (or as much) Anyway. look forward to another update in a few hours. I just need to finish up some other stuff I'm doing.

Hello. Uhh... I'm not here right now!
Oh, alright. I'm not done with camp yet, but the end is drawing close now ( / )
I'll talk more about it later, as this isn't my thread. Anyway, though I do agree with Mangaka and Strafe (waves at old friend), this piece is one to be proud of. I have a tenancy to get too close to the project and end up screwing the whole thing over. Though I've had more success than failure. Well, anyway, great work as usual Pharan! Always happy to see another piece of yours! Bye!

pharan, maybe just adding tone if you colour (or tone it, duh me) to the cape will make it more dynamic??
just one teeeeeeeny tiny thing has been bothering me about this pic, and i've finally decided to speak up ^_^;; her front ankle looks too curved/smooth imo, and possibly you should be abel to see the heel of the foot at that angle?? but meh, nothing major or important, just me being me #_# |

Well, as artists, we're also about the little details in the recognition that they also affect the beauty of the larger whole... right? So... yeah.. thanks
for pointing that out. XD
Unfortunately, I'm not sure what you mean by "front ankle". You mean the ankle of the foot closer to us, right? If so, I'm not quite sure what's too curved ('cause I really did put bumps/"lateral & medial malleoli" there to suggest the ankle so maybe you're not talking about that), and what constitutes as "too curved" and where you would mean to have the heel showing... could you explain? (on second thought... let me upload the update of the lineart... then maybe you can explain. XD) PS Nice to see you again too, EDH. |

pharan, like i said, teeny tiny little things that were just bugging me personally - this is what i actually meant, i've circled the areas i was talking
about and popped a red lineart there to show the changes i meant. as i said, barely noticable and probably just me #_#

Oh. I see.
Well, while I admire your attention to detail, I must disagree with the heel showing at this angle, especially like that. Firstly, you seem to be drawing the outer edge of the foot like the inner edge of the foot which are more likely to have the two distinct bulges because there's a gap between the heel and the metatarsal of the big toe... but the outer edge of your foot (and I guess in some footwear) should have a straight outer edge too, right? Of course, for some shoes and boots, I suppose this might be true but that's entirely dependent on the shoemaker (since we're talking fantasy characters here :P)... but for the same reason, I'd also suppose that that showing the protrusions of the ankles at all is also a matter of style since... most boots wouldn't hug the ankle to reveal its exact shape anyway, right? But thanks, though. Lemme know if you think there's something wrong with the reason why I drew it that way. Anyway, here's the updated one that I was supposed to put up yesterday.. I haven't changed it since you posted your reply but... I think the changes I've made so far are valid... still gonna fix the redrawn hand and clean up the leaf-cape and the legs and feet: WIP2

actually i just thought the actual foot angled more to the right than straight ahead when i mentioned the heel bit LOL when you can see the second lineart
it's obvious that the foot is angled to the front and not a semi turned/profile type angle ^_^

Haha! Yeah. sorry about that... misunderstanding..
I also had to narrow her foot to make her look slightly less manly. haha! But okay. Anyway. I've got most of the colors down. I'll need to add the details and clean certain parts up: WIP3 The sword is not hers. She's an archer/ranger kind of Knight. The sword just belongs to a friend... who... maybe also dropped his/her sword and needs it to continue fighting or something... XD changes to be made: - skintone: too dark compared to original design. - highlights on the leather - shading on chest area... to... like... show she's a girl... - add details and refinement to background and ground with wet mud and rocks. - tone down color in some areas to make it look rainy-er - refine the rain splatter. - finish the sword (and blur it too) - general details and shading on all parts. Mangaka, if you're reading this, I hope I'm not overstepping my creative license with the cape... I made it so it looks like a leaf... I figured it could be some kind of magical cape that had veins in it... and that she could use to camouflage herself... as a giant leaf... which is abundant around... the.. life kingdom... maybe.... XD I hope that's not too farfetched. Lan, help me out here.

Hey Pharan,
The cape is perfectly fine. It's not a magical cape or anything special. She could camouflage herself with it but there are no giant leaves/trees in my story. As for the sword, the characters in my story have the ability to recall their swords. So for example, if Lily dropped her sword, she can instantly bring it back into her hands. It's a special technique that's available to some people. You'll find out more about it when I have my manga up. I can't wait to see this finished! The way you color is so interesting! You have to make a tutorial someday!

Well if I knew in the first place that it was supposed to be a leaf I wouldn't have any complaints about the cape, now I see, perhaps I was too fixed with
the drawing that I might left out Pharan's message that it WAS a leaf. Awesome my friend, I agree with Mangaka7 PUT UP A TUTORIAL! BANZAI!!!

Haha! Actually, I'm not too keen about writing a tutorial when I myself am still experimenting on how to paint things... I think tutorials require the
writer to have some form of system... (otherwise, the text part would be all "now, play with the colors" and "play with the colors some
more" and "just keep playing with the colors" XD)
Anyway, according to my fanfic (it's fanfiction because mangaka's story doesn't involve magical capes xD)... Melon's cape was made using special fibers and an elven weaving technique that allows it to mimick the translucency and optical properties of leaves and still act as a cape, thereby also making it excellent for camoflage. WIP4 Still have a number of things to address, then I'm calling this "resolved"... (i miss angelicmyst... where the heck did that girl go off to?): -add a fog in the distance to separate the mountains.
