Is learning Japanese and easier, respectively, than learning Mandarin Chinese?
Right now I am attempting to study Chinese but I am finding it tedious (No offense to those who DO speak Chinese), I would rather learn Japanese but I am beginning to think it will be just as challenging.
See..all I have for a Chinese book is the Beginning Chinese Reader by John DeFrancis. It is good but after awhile I find it very difficult to keep track of all these characters especially when you have ones that are apparently used rarely. I used to have a book from Berlitz on conversational Japanese but it was all romanized and while it was really good I felt I was missing something.
I also have Learning Chinese For Dummies which is good too as it has a nice pronunciation key which my reader doesn't have but again it is strictly romanized so while it is very helpful it won't do me much good if I am in a environment where everything is in the Mandarin Chinese.
I don't know..it just seems that Japanese has more appeal to me personally.
P.S: If I inadvertently insulted anyone then please know it is not my intent.
